Commercial or Research Support

Charter our vessel Nekana II to assist you in your commercial business operations or research activity. Our services also cover the East and West coasts of Queensland. 

Nekana II is equipped with an ‘A’ frame and winch with lift capacity of 800kg, plus a davit with lift capacity of 250kg. 

This allows for effective retrieval/deployment of moorings, buoys and ghost nets where applicable. The addition of tender vessels is optional, with 5 or 6m dories available to hire.

Crown-of-Thorns Starfish Control

Malu Ventures is currently engaged by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to assist manage the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS) on the Great Barrier Reef as part of the COTS Control Program. At Malu Ventures, our (COTS) dive team works to protect and restore reef ecosystems across Sea Country. Our divers combine scientific monitoring techniques with Traditional First Nations knowledge to care for the reef in a holistic and culturally informed way. 

The team conducts Reef Health Impact Surveys (RHIS), manta tow assessments, and targeted COTS culling to reduce coral predation and support reef recovery. While working on the reef, our divers also remove marine debris when encountered—including ghost nets and other harmful materials—helping maintain healthier habitats for coral, fish, and other marine life. Through this work, Malu Ventures contributes to the long-term resilience and stewardship of the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait marine ecosystems.

Scenic Island Cruises: A Trip to 'The Tip'

Experience the Straits in the best way possible... on the water! Charter our vessel to take you on a visual trip of a lifetime. See historic landmarks and appreciate the beauty of the seascape in the Torres Strait. 

The charter vessel will depart Thursday Island at 6:30 am to catch the morning sun and travel through the inner islands, stopping at historic Possession Island and then through to the northern most tip of Australia where you will once again disembark (weather permitting!). 

The cruise will then return by circumnavigating Prince of Wales Island (Muralag), and have you disembarking on Thursday Island at 5pm. The route taken will vary at the skippers discretion and will be sure to deliver a memorable experience.

Sunset Cruises   

Relax and enjoy this unique part of the world. Unwind on the back deck of Nekana II and enjoy the slow cruise out to the East to capture the setting sun. The skipper will drop anchor and guests can mingle, enjoy good food and take in the panoramic view. (Route will vary depending on weather to ensure our passengers are comfortable).

Overnight Scenic Tours

Needing more time away to truly soak up the ambiance in this beautiful part of the world? Malu Ventures offers overnight scenic trips with all meals provided. Sleep aboard the Nekana II in our comfortable cabins and wake to catch the sunrise over the water. 

Fishing Charters

Liveaboard the Nekana II in air-conditioned comfort.

Travel through the beautiful remote islands of the Torres Strait to secluded fishing grounds and try your hand at catching mackerel, sail fish and other pelagic. Each day will bring a new location where you can fish the reefs for coral trout, red emperor, nannygai and also cast a lure over sandflats for GT's. 

We recommend bringing your own fishing gear, however, this is also available to hire at additional cost.
